Know Allegiance Nation Books or KAN Books is a bookstore dedicated to authors and artists of color in Michigan and around the globe. New and used fiction and non-fiction titles are available for children and adults. In addition to books – music, art, incense, Kwanzaa candles, Pan African flags, coloring books, Black board games, hats and more are available at KAN Books.
The bookstore serves also as a cultural and literacy resource hub for the North End neighborhood of Detroit. The space will also hold events inclusive of book signings, drum circles, art showings, open mics, children’s story-time, tea-making, film screenings, writing workshops, potlucks, music swaps and more.
