Join us for a community writing session on Friday, Jan 31st, 7-9PM at KAN Books, located at 9405 John R, in Detroit’s North End.
The 50 Banners 50 Barrels project provides Detroiters with opportunities to create literary and visual art that elevates our voices on issues that are important to us. Community poems will be created about water, food and farming, land, immigration, self-determination, resiliency, Blackness and more.
After creating poems, banners with beautiful typography and images will form poetry banners. Community alongside visual artists will adorn rain barrels with art inspired by the poetry and then add poems to the rain barrels. The 50 Banners & 50 Barrels will then become a traveling display across the city of our collective voice.
