The Detroit Reads: Jackson Rising Study Group meets on Sundays at 2PM and Mondays at 6PM every other week. The next sessions are on Sunday, March 31st and Monday, April 1st at KAN Books (9405 John R).
Due to an in-depth discussion at our past session about grounding our intentions, community agreements and our re-visitation of the Week 1- Chapter 1 readings, we have decided to push back the reading schedule slightly, so we will be taking up the Week 2- Chapter 2 of Jackson Rising “Toward Economic Democracy, Labor Self-management and Self-determination,” (p. 43-63) by Kali Akuno and Ajamu Nangwaya (p. 172-243 in .epub ebook) and Ethan Miller’s piece on “Solidarity Economics: Strategies for Building New Economies From the Bottom-Up and the Inside-Out”.

You don’t need to have read or participated in the first session to join this one. The chapters in the Jackson Rising book are fairly independent. We’ll have snacks, tea and bottled beer or wine or you can bring your own treats to share. An updated schedule of the readings for coming weeks is below.
